No fewer than 3,000 members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), have defected to the Advanced People Democratic Alliance, APDA in Ondo State.
The decampees led by the state secretary of the party, Mr. Dele Ogunbameru, said they joined APDA because it is the only party with a true social democratic principle, ideology and philosophy.
Ogunbameru who led 11 out of the 20 state executives and over 3,000 members across the 18 LGAs of the state to the new party, alleged that his former party, SDP, APC, PDP and other political parties in the country were fraught with “political blemishes, scar and stain.
“Our coming to the party which is relatively new in existence is therefore to strengthen this real social democratic principle that does not exist in all other existing political parties.
Receiving the decampees, the National Vice Chairman (Southwest) of Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance (APDA), Mr. Akin Akinbobola, declared that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and other political parties in Nigeria are corrupt and impostors.
Akinbobola however, pledged that APDA would offer lasting solutions to the manifold problems which have hence made the people poorer, and provide platform for effective restructuring of the nation.
The state ADPA chairman, Chief Banji Akinkuowo, lauded the defectors for joining the party, assuring them of equal opportunities that “No joiner, no founder.”
Akinkuowo declared that the party, in the coming weeks and months, would receive a lot of political bigwigs from other parties in preparation for the 2019 general elections.
Meanwhile, the State Chapter of the Social Democratic party (SDP) says it has placed its state Secretary Mr Dele Ogunbameru, Mr Lere Adeodu and Mr Raphael on an indefinite suspension with immediate effect.
The party said the three officials were suspended at a full meeting of the State Executive Committee meeting held in Akure.
A statement signed by the State Chairman Chief Korede Duyile and the State Publicity Secretary; Mr Remi Olayiwola stated that the officials were suspended for their flagrant disregard for the party’s constitution, disloyalty, and anti-party activities.
