Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has recommended that all states of the federation must be allowed to harness their resources and depend primarily on their immediate environment for survival if the call for restructuring must thrive in Nigeria.

 

Akeredolu made the recommendation while delivering a lecture entitled ” Restructuring of the Nigerian state: Implications For development ” organized by the faculty of social science, obafemi awolowo University, ile Ife, Osun State.

 

The meeting was the 4th in the series of lectures delivered by governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu since he assumed office about two years ago.

 

Addressing the gathering, governor Akeredolu noted that the lecture couldn’t have come at a better time that the Nation is clamouring for restructuring.

 

The governor who traced the history of the nation from pre and post colonial era to the present state, explained that any political arrangement that excludes the people in the scheme of things is banditry.

 

While stressing that the inherited colonial political system upon which subsequent system have been built have not addressed the restructuring debate with attendant effect on the masses.

 

He recommended that the country must expunge state of origin as well as federal character from its statutes, citizenship be placed above ethnic origin and while the need for the nation must take seriously the issue Of State and local government police for adequate security.

 

He added that the nation’s educational curricular must reflect its peculiar challenges and youths must be trained to address these challenges.

 

Earlier the vice chancellor of obafemi awolowo University, ile Ife, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede thanked the governor for honouring his Alma mater and expressed the hope that with his wealth of experience in the political space in the country, he would be able to contribute effectively to the development of ondo state and nigeria at large .

 

The secretary to the state government, Ifedayo Abegunde was later honoured with an award of excellence at the event by the faculty of social science, obafemi awolowo university.
