The usual training session of sunshine stars football club of Akure was this morning halted by angry ex players of sunshine stars and sunshine queens who are demanding for the payment of their sign on fee by the management of The Ondo state football agency (ODSFA) at the sports complex.
The players, who trooped out in thier numbers, displayed placards with inscriptions such as “PAY US OUR MONEY” ,”WE ARE TIRED” amongst others.
They also threatened to stop Sunshine Stars from training for their league matches until the issue is fully resolved.
A former sunshine stars captain, James Moses, while Speaking with newsmen lamented the hardship the delayed payment has caused some of the players which he said are on sick beds and jobless.
The former member of Sunshine stars team at the 2012 CAF Confederation Cup and CAF Champions League said no legal action will be taken on his part but pleaded for the payment of his sign on fee and those of other concerned ex-players.
Also a former captain, Esther Omajunu of sunshine queens said the injury She sustained while playing for sunshine stars has cut short her professional career and also appealed to the state government and the management of ODSFA to pay them their entire benefits.
She said some of the players relied on payment from their clubs,while some do not have any job again and need to sustain their families.
In His Response, The Chairman of ODSFA, Alhaji Tajudeen Akinyemi Said previous administration was responsible for the debt while revealing that efforts are ongoing to ensure they pay the former players their all their outstanding sign on fees.
The players are aggitating for their various sign on fee from 2012.
