Three persons were reported killed as explosion and violence marred the local government elections in Enugu State.

There were unconfirmed reports that three persons were killed at the Oji River Local Government Area , where violence erupted between supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress.

It was gathered that two of the victims were killed by police operatives, who were trying to quell a clash between supporters of the two parties.

Reports say the APC supporters insisted that voting would not hold until the electoral officials produced the result sheets , which they suspected to be in the possession of the PDP.

The Enugu State Police Command however denied the report.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr . Ebere Amaraizu, said nobody was killed , although he admitted that the police had to use tear gas to disperse troublemakers who wanted to disrupt the elections .

Also, an explosion, suspected to have been caused by an improvised explosive device, rocked Enugu as voters were coming out to cast their votes.

The incident occurred in the Coal Camp area of the state , by the entrance of a road that led to a polling station located at Broderick Primary School , Ogbete West Ward 6 , Enugu North Local Government Area .

No life was lost in the incident but it was gathered that several persons sustained varying degrees of injuries.
