The National airspace management agency (Nama) has reiterated its commitment to uplifting the Akure Airport from Category One  to Category Two by introducing lots of valuable equipment that would turn the Airport to a more viable one.


The new airspace manager of the agency in Akure airport, Mr Adebayo Ogunleye made the disclosure during a courtesy visit to governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in his office.


The Nigeria airspace management agency is a body responsible for the provision of air navigation services throughout the Nigerian Flight Information Region.


Speaking during the visit the airspace manager at the Akure Air port, Adebayo Ogunleye commended the present administration in the state for his numerous laudable projects and programmes which had turned the state into the cynosure of all eyes among other states.


Ogunleye hinted that NAMA is committed to safety of the populace and is responsible for putting up equipment to make flight operations  successful.


He noted that NAMA as a body, has equipment to guide the pilot’s jurisdiction, but what they have at the Akure airport  is only for Sunset and Sunrise which is not too good for the airport .


The NAMA boss who explained that the Instrument Landing System procured by the agency will enable flights to come at all times and would allow the Pilot land even at zero weather condition maintained that management of the agency have started with the upgrading of the communication system which has prevented hitch between the controller and the Pilot.


Responding  governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu  while assuring the agency of  resolving some of its challenges in a bid to improve the output of the Airport explained that the Akure airport, billed to be a cargo port, was very important to his administration.


The governor however said whatever the state government would do in form of assistance would have to be integrated in the budget for next year.


He enjoined the agency to speed up its plans to upgrade the airport.
