The Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, on Tuesday summoned an emergency meeting of the state security council over Monday’s shooting at the palace of the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji, during the installation of Baales.

The governor has also called all the traditional chiefs in the 11 local government areas of Ibadan for an emergency meeting in his office on Wednesday (today).

Four gunmen had opened fire on the palace repeatedly as three journalists, Olufemi Atoyebi of The PUNCH; his ThisDay counterpart, Demola Babalola; a correspondent with Daily Trust, Jeremiah Oke; a former Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Sharafadeen Alli; and others narrowly escaped death.

A statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Olalekan Alli, said that the meetings were called to forestall security breach in the state.

Also on Tuesday, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 11, Mr. Oshodi Glover, visited the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Adetunji, in his palace at Popoyemoja area of Ibadan.

The AIG, who visited the palace with the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Odude, said investigation had begun into the attack on the palace and that those who were involved would be arrested and prosecuted.
