Security agencies in the Ondo state say strategic measures are in place to tackle all forms of criminality with a view to ensuring that law-abiding citizens enjoy a peaceful yuletide season.

The state police spokesperson, Femi Joseph who made the disclosure in an interview with newsmen in akure said combat- ready operation and 24 hour surveillance patrol have been operational ahead the Christmas and New Year festivities.

The yuletide season is associated with increased commercial activities, merry-making and communal celebration but criminally – minded individuals usually use the festive mood as smokescreen to perpetrate evil.

The so- called “Onwa December” syndrome has over the years led to a surge in nefarious activities ranging from kidnapping to burglary and bank robbery among others.

Speaking on the preparation ahead of the yuletide and its attendant challenges,the police public relations officer, Mr Femi Joseph who noted that tackling crime is a collective responsibility opined that the command has put in place a number of strategic security measures

According to him, the operation which was launched in September is being renewed monthly so as to nip crime in the bud.

His counterpart in the Nigerian security and civil defense corps, (NSCDC) Mr .Samuel Oladapo revealed that networking with sister agencies has been effective in apprehending criminals

Other security agencies while keeping tight-lips on their modalities assured residents of the state of total protection of lives and properties.

Some concerned residents however called for massive job creation and social welfare scheme saying many able bodied youths are lured into crime due to hunger, boredom and frustration.
