Arrangements are being put in place with a view to making Ondo state the next destination point in the money-spinning global entertainment industry.
Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Alhaji Ismaila Olurimisi, who gave the indication at the inauguration of the local organising committee of the sunshine international dance festival said Ondo state is blessed with rich cultural heritage that can put the state on the global map in tourism.
Barely a year after the creation of Ondo state in 1976, a masquerade from the ancient kingdom of Owo in Ondo state came home with a motorcycle from the national festival of arts and culture, festac, held in Lagos in 1977.
Back in the days, Ondo state was known for its rich cultural heritage and traditional dance steps that distinguishes her cultural troupes from others.
Over the years, showcasing this rich cultural heritage waned with the passage of different governments who paid little or no attention to it.
To revive the dance culture of the people of Ondo state and put it on a global pedestal, the Ondo state ministry of culture and tourism, in conjunction with Ravicom Integrated Concepts, a global culture and entertainment promotion company began preparation for the maiden edition of the Sunshine International Dance Festival.
Speaking at the inauguration of the local organising committee for the event, the commissioner for culture and tourism, Alhaji Ismaila Olurimisi, who thanked governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for supporting the idea said the event would attract tourists and investors from across the globe, thereby boosting the state’s economy.
Mr Rotimi Awelewa, who spoke on behalf of Ravicom Integrated Concepts, said the festival would empower youths in making a living through dancing and open up tourism in Ondo state.
The LOC which has the Commissioner as chairman and the Director of Culture at the ministry, Mr Lawrence Amimi as secretary, has the permanent secretary, Mrs Taiwo Kolawole as member.
Other members of the committee are Mr Rotimi Awelewa of Ravicom Integrated Concepts as vice chairman, Mrs Kemi Oguntoye, Dr Peter Badejo and Mr Femi Kazeem as members.
